As a republican, I would add that GOP Americans could effectively "head the outlaws off at the pass" by working toward, and ultimately nominating a 2024 presidential candidate who cultivates respect for the rule of law, which means . . . (we've heard this before) anybody but trump.

Paul Ryan comes to mind.
