Colin, I have been waiting to see or hear about what this verdict would be.
As a 70-year-old white who grew up in the the deep south of Mississippi and Louisiana, I have witnessed these atrocities all my life. I even wrote a novel, King of Soul, that includes some of the tragic back story (the assassination of Medgar Evers) that precedes this historic conviction of white murderers.
I was browsing through Medium when I came across your entry here, and this is how I receieved the news of the Arbery jury's conviction of these murderers.
It has been a long time coming. May this historic case become the beginning of a new day that will open the gates of justice for all Americans . . . black, white, red, yellow, whatever.
Free at last! Free at last!, thank God almighty we are all free at last to jog through America's crossroads without being gunned down by self-deceived privileged assholes.
At least, I hope this will be a new beginning, even if . . . in the judicial system, if not in any other dark corners of our struggling nation.
Thanks, Colin, for breaking the good news.
