How ‘bout we divide the USA into 50 different entitites, with 50 different leaders at the top of each one. Let the Governor of each state take the responsibility — and the backlash — for what his/her management of Covid repsonse provokes; then each Governor can respond accordingly, and accept the glory, or endure the protest, that arises from his/her state.

Does that sound familiar?

It should. Provision for governmental response during nationwide crisis such as we have now — such provision is set forth in our Constitution. It has been a good system for us now, for the last 240 years or so.

Governors are closer the the ground; they are better-situated to respond to rumblings than, say, one egotistical guy in and eastern seaboard city.

Each state has its own identity — especially as regards to density of population and commuter habits. Let the Governors deal with their own domains.
