Keith, as centrist Republican, I want to thank you for writing this. Your presentation here is significant, insofar as it can, if considered by enough of us out here in the hinterlands, make a differeence.
I like to think of myself as a radical centrist; then I discovered another Medium writer who uses that phrase as his moniker.
Perhaps there are enough of us out here in the highways and byways to make a difference, if we will put our heads together, work constructively, and strive to reach a few centrist Democrats.
You noticed that Goerge Will did indeed take up the mantle of Buckley. I am hoping that Mr. Will can hang on to his conservative lucidity long enough to help us make a difference in the days and years ahead.
In 1970, when I was chairman of a student Speakers committee at LSU, I introduced Bill Buckley to an audience of 1400 people. What a privilege--what a precious memory that was. The other two speakers I introduced were Dr. Spock and Dick Gregory. A few years ago, I fictionalized that Buckley scene in a novel that I published, King of Soul, written to provide an expanation of what happened to our nation during the war in Vietnam. .
But now in the 21st-century . . .
I am amused that the last person mentioned in your article--the last two words--is "Mike Pence."
Mike Pence did the right thing when it mattered the most!
We need to keep him in the loop. He is, in my reckoning, a true American hero, a patriot.
Last but not least, I'll toss in this question that's been bouncing in my brain lately:
Where are Paul Ryan and John Boehner when you need them?
Keith, keep up the good work.
God bless America!
