My grandfather was a state official working in the Louisiana Capitol during several administrations, including Long's. He, my grandmother and my mother were in the Capitol, heard Huey's last speech, and heard the fatal shot a few minutes later as Huey was approaching the elevator to go upstairs.

Roosevelt's second term was beneficial for our national development in overcoming the Depression, and eventually preparing us to enter the War that defeated Hitler's nazis, Mussolini's fascists and the Jap hirohito-heads.

Accordingly, we Americans were probably better equipped, under Roosevelt's seasoned leadership, to face the immanent challenges of Depression and war--better equipped than if Huey had taken over in '36.

Our situation today is similar. We are much better equipped with the carefully developed leadership of President Biden, than we would have been under the bullish, shoot-from-the-hip melodrama by which trump strove to impose his tyranny on our America.
