Thanks, Scott for your brutally honest sharing.
As a worthless Liberal Arts major, I entered the full-time working world in 1973.
After a few years plugging away at various sales, I gravitated to carpentry, and never regretted it.
40 years of banging nails, building houses, plunging toilets etc have suitably supplied our table with two parents and three hungry young'uns. About halfway through, my wife went to Nursing school, and so that has worked well for us and for the people for whom she cared.
Nursing is, yes, highly recommended!
Your advice is good. . . precious as gold.
I'm so glad you wrote this on Medium. I am sure there are many out there who will benefit from your wake-up call.
One more thing: even if a person is a whiz techie, it still proves beneficial to spend some time in a hands-on sideline such as plumbing, carpentry or electrical work. Those skills will never be a waste of time for any person aspires to be a homeowner, or a useful contributor to their community.
