This is quite a revealing memory that you share here.

As an American born in 1951, studying writing and politics n University from 1969-73, I had no idea that there was any such expression thriving on the other side of the "Iron Curtain," in Poland.

But considering what you present here--the practice of real journalism and opionion-shaping under a "communist" government--I can see that the germ of Polish Solidarnsc was alive and germinating long before Lech Walesa came along and Solidarnsc became a liberating inspiration for--not only eastern Europe and even Russia--but for the entire world!

It's a tantalizing peek behind the scenes in those perilous times as your truly liberating revolution was mounting, being systematically planted by a slow but sure spreading of freely constructive ideas, waiting for the right moment to make itself known to the world. Fascinating!
