This is so very strange to me, and I will explain why.

Several years ago, we visited Hungary. At that time, a relative of ours, a US serviceman, was assigned to a NATO air base in Hungary. That air base had formerly been a Soviet air base, but then (and still now, as far as I know) is occupied and utilized by NATO.

So now I am wondering, especially after reading your last paragraph. . . what is going to happen to that NATO base in Hungary?

And of course, the wider question is, what is going to happen to Ukraine?

And the the even wider question is: What about NATO? I know putin and his thugs like to blame NATO for all this trouble, but the cold hard truth is he is aggressor, stirring up trouble, first in Donbas, and then throughout Ukraine, just like hitler did when he invaded Czech Sudetenland, claiming that he was taking charge of the Germans in that region. Which reminds me, when we visited Hungary, and Budapest, we also visited Prague in Czech.

This present aggression from putin, masked as Russian interest is no more legitimate than hitler's seizure of Czech lands in 1939.

Then Hungarians would do better to get rid of orban and find themselves a leader who is willing to work with the other Europeans instead of the warmongering Russian bear.
