When I was a kid in the 1950's, NBC had a colorful logo symbol of a peackock. We boomer kids got used to seeing that peackock on our tubes, tubes that looked very much like the shattered-screen photo at the top of your message.
It turns out that colorful peacock was an indicator of much more than just the pixels (or whatever we called them then) on our TV sets.
