We can get through this, y'all. Remember Gerald Ford. As far as I can remember, he was hand-picked by Nixon as Nixon was finally reading the message that the nation was sending to him.

We got through it.

If Democrats are at all capable of leadership in a time of dire need, they need to get together, confer with both the President and Vice President, and work toward a consensus for a contingency plan. There are some honorable members of the opposing party who are honest enought to contribute to the powwow, if asked to do so. Mitt Romney comes to mind.

We can get through this.

Thanks to you, Caren, for sounding the alarm in an appropriate way.

Even so, we need not be in a big hurry. But the people at the top who are honorably responsible need to respond to the writing on the wall. . . on the Medium, as it were, and elsewhere, so that the insurrectionists are not able to mount up a coup like the one they attempted in January.

If Democrats--and Americans--are prepared for any such changes as you suggest, we need to carefully move in an orderly, consensual direction.
