I write historical fiction for the same reason, to explore the past in search of indicators of what the future hold.
For instance, my 2014 novel, Smoke, utilizes the scenario of a young American businessman traveling through France--to cast attention on historical indicators of what was happening across the border in Germany in 1937.
We need to keep a close eye on the road ahead. We are in grave danger, unawares, if we fail to monitor all three rear-view mirrors, left, right and center.
